What If the World Were Geared For Autistic People?

Things would probably be, umm, different.

(Note: this isn’t meant to promote a divide between autistic and non-autistic people. It’s just sort of a fun exercise.)

If autistic people were the majority, there would be nothing “wrong” with us. Instead, neurotypical people might get diagnosed as being too forward or too chatty by comparison.

Personal Interaction

Social interaction would be different. Hand-shaking and eye contact might get replaced with a simple Japanese bow and looking wherever you want, respectively.

You could go out in public wearing whatever you wanted, and nobody would balk. You could stim as you need or like, and even if somebody asks you why you’re doing what you’re doing, they’ll nod and easily accept your answer. No further discussion necessary. Nobody would think you’re weird. They would get it; they’d understand.

Texting, email, and messaging might be the dominant forms of communication. It would probably become customary to text someone beforehand if you wanted to phone them.
